Busy Traffic

At a recent festival, I noticed that crowds often gathered towards the edges of the field, close to the stalls and tents. The horizontal signs stabilise these two images and in both, a cluster of people gathers in front of the sign, becoming more widely spaced towards the front of the scene.

In the next three images, the diagonal lines present create more of a sense of motion through the scene:

The swooping lines of the tent and signs create flow through the image in the same direction as the walking people.

The anticlockwise motion of the rollercoaster slide matches the turn of the festivalgoer’s heads, drawing attention to them as they walk through the site.

The swoop of the purple tent creates flow in the same direction as the people; the static cup of lager interrupts this flow.

This image is made up of two triangles of people, one coming towards the camera, and one walking away. The diagonal lines create movement while the definite directions create a circular flow back and forth through the image.
